A bit about yourself?
My name is Andria Maria Thompson, I was born in Kingston, Jamaica and migrated to Canada at a very young age, Daughter of the legendry Uzziah Sticky Thompson and the late Veronica Wilson, I am the second oldest of nine children. I am a proud mother of three wonderful children and a lovely granddaughter. I am a lover of life, and a student of God’s word. I have heart to see women made whole spiritually, emotionally and psychologically. I am the founder of “UR Woman” (Unique & Rare Woman). We seek to promote positive self-image, and God confidence, reminding women of their worth through Image building workshops, inspirational messages, and most importantly prayer. My belief is that all women are uniquely beautiful queens with an eternal crown. I believe once we understand our worth, our lives would change forever.
What is Your Inspiration, how do you handle disappointment and get motive?
My inspiration comes from my personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, and the greatest gifts he has blessed me with “my children.” I am a firm believer in the power of prayer and understand the impact it has in one’s life. Therefore, in every season my motivation comes from spending time in prayer and reading my bible.
What many people may not know about you?
I am also an aspiring song writer, my single inspired by my book “,Designer’s Original” is due to be out in the later part of 2019 by God’s grace.
Work & Leisure
How do you balance work, family, friends and leisure?
I balance work, family and friends by taking care of me first, I maximize my leisure time by giving myself a day (each month) I believe when I’m well rested and cared for I can then care for the things and people that are dear to me. I keep a monthly calendar to make sure I stay on track each month.
What’s your favourite food, book, sports, music and movie? And what do you enjoy doing most?
My favourite food is Italian food, my favourite books, hands down the bible, The Lady, Her lover and Lord by Bishop T.D Jakes. I love football, a good chick-flick. I love and appreciate all kinds of music; the legacy of my daddy is in me and I could not imagine my life without music. If the message is uplifting and positive, I will enjoy it.
Born To Lead
How would you like to be remembered?
I would like to be remembered as a woman that left a Godly legacy. I want to be remembered as an advocate and an inspiration to all women. I want to be remembered as an overcome, a woman that never settled or chose to be defined by anyone or anything that did not line up to the word of God. I want to be remembered for the queen I have become.
Are there many opportunities for blacks in Canada that can produce role models, influencers and institutions like Beyonce, Tyler Perry, Obama, Oprah, BET, etc?
Yes, I believe there are many opportunities for blacks in Canada that can produce positive role models and influencers. There is a new generation arising, a generation of world changers that will began to create opportunities and platforms such as the Diversity Advancement Network and many other institutions within the black community.
What is your understanding of the history of Black Women and their accomplishments in the past and present Canada?
Black women have had a great impact in the history of Canada, in the past woman like Harriet Tubman a conductor on the Underground Railroad who led many slaves to freedom in Canada. Betty Riley, the First Black woman in Canada to become a television producer. A wonderful woman who I had the honour of meeting the honourable Jean Augustine, the first Black woman elected as a federal Member of Parliament. I believe black women will continue to have a very positive impact in Canada.
